Write On Peace: an Essay Contest Sponsored by ICPJ
Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice (ICPJ) announces a new essay contest, “Write On Peace”, for Adams County 9th and 10th graders. We are asking participants to write essays explaining how they could best spend or donate $50,000 to further the cause of peace. For inspiration on essay topics, take a look at the article, $50,000 for Peace, also in this newsletter.
Essays are due by November 3, 2008. Contest guidelines are available on our website and and at branches of the Adams County Library. We will also distribute materials through area high schools. Look for a “Write On Peace” table at the Heritage Festival coming up on Sunday, September 21, 2008 in the Gettysburg Recreation Park.
ICPJ plans to honor winners in a ceremony held at the Adams County Public Library in Gettysburg on December 11, 2008. Awards include $100 for first place winners, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. In addition, ICPJ will donate matching amounts in the cause of peace. Where practical, ICPJ hopes to donate the matching awards as proposed in the winning essays, reserving the right to select alternate recipients.
For additional information, call ICPJ at (717) 334-0752 or e-mail us at essays@icpj-gettysburg.org.
