A Sunday School Curriculum on Peace and Respect of Diversity

The Unitarian Universalists of Gettysburg (UUG) will hold their Religious Education Registration and Open House on Sunday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. Come to our new home, the little red church, located at 136 N. Stratton Street, and learn more about what we are engaging our youth in. There will be refreshments, balloons, bubbles and door prizes.

Our theme this year will be Celebrations Around the World–A Multicultural Approach to Learning. Teachers Sally Caldwell and Sabrina Paxton-Daily will continue to explore different cultures with our elementary children by focusing on celebrations and the meanings behind them. Through learning about and participating in these celebrations of different peoples, students of all ages can understand the cultures, religions, customs, beliefs, traditions and rituals of others. As children learn to appreciate our differences, they also are able to recognize the innumerable similarities that exist between all cultures.

Guest artist Melissa Sandoe will incorporate universal dances of peace with the particular culture being celebrated.

Our Middle Schoolers will focus on what they value in life and what they believe in with Sara Gondwe. Our liberally religious teens will be reorganizing, rethinking, and rejuvenating in our upstairs teen room (yet to be painted and designed by the teens). Under the guidance of husband-wife duo Rob & Kelly Elliott, it is now decorated with colorful mushroom chairs, candles and a microfridge housing popcorn and drinks. This teen group especially welcomes liberally thinking youth of any faith or no faith. The love to attend “cons.” What is a “con”? Come and find out! A surprise curriculum is being worked on for our 3's and 4's. Nursery care will continue with our TLC program. Come and see what we're about! For more information, contact, our Director of Religious Education, Sara Gondwe, 337-3310 or sgondwe@pa.net.
