Literacy Council Announces ESL and Basic Tutor Training
The Adams County Literacy Council welcomes the gift of your time and talent to help fill an overwhelming number of requests for ESL (English‑as‑a‑Second-Language) and Basic (Native‑English) tutors. Please join them for one or both of the following upcoming trainings:
Basic - scheduled for the evenings of September 7, 8, 12, and 13. Tutors are matched with Native‑English speaking students to assist in improving reading, writing, comprehension, and life skills. Basic and ESL tutors do not need previous teaching experience in order to work with students.
ESL - scheduled for the weekend of October 7, 8, and 9. After completing all sessions, participants receive Laubach certification and are matched with adult students to help improve reading, writing, conversation, or listening skills. Fluency in a language other than English is not necessary in order to tutor.
A $20 fee per workshop includes take-home materials and resource book full of activities, games and lesson plans. For more information or to register for one or both trainings please contact the Literacy Council at (717) 334-3065, or stop by the office at 34 Foth Alley in Gettysburg (next to Mel’s Antiques.)
