$50,000 FOR PEACE

How would you spend $50,000 to further the cause of world peace? Let us know by filling in our “Peace Check.” Your answer could inspire students to think and write about their own answers to this question.

The Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice is sponsoring an essay contest for ninth and tenth graders in Adams County, Pennsylvania. We are asking students to imagine that a generous benefactor offers a vast fortune on the condition that the recipient spends the first $50,000 to make the world a more peaceful place. In their essays, students will explain how they would use this money, giving reasons for their choices.

We will use “Peace Checks” sent by community members in publicity related to our essay contest. We hope your response will spark interest and thinking – perhaps even action - among students and others in Gettysburg and Adams County.
