Canadian Musicians to Perform at Festival
by Janet Powers

Show-stopping music by Reveillons from Quebec, Canada, and Simple Gifts from State College, Pennsylvania, will be featured at the Adams County Heritage Festival on September 21 at the Gettysburg Recreation Park. A four-man group offering vocals, drums and traditional fiddle tunes, Reveillons plays major festivals in Quebec and will also appear at regional concerts in Maryland and West Virginia on their swing south.

Simple Gifts, a well-known group with its own coterie of followers, plays folk and ethnic music with exquisite harmonies. Tin Kettle, an Irish trio, will perform mid-afternoon, and we will again welcome back the youthful Mexican dancers from Generación Diez. Also in the works is a play by members of a local African American church.

Craft vendors scheduled for the 2008 Festival promise a fascinating array of arts to view and appreciate. Fiber artists of all kinds will be featured, including Barbara Dombrowsky, basket-maker; Annette Ehly, who dyes yarns using natural dyes; weaver Gail McClusky; and Patsy Hartnett, quilter. Chair-caning will be demonstrated by Bill Brick and instrument-making by Tom Jolin. The Goats of Gettysburg (Caprine Delight) will put in a return appearance.

Because ACHF is very much a family-centered festival, the Children’s Area will offer a number of exciting hands-on activities involving petroglyphs, kites and friendship flags. Regional food vendors are currently being lined up to provide all sorts of delicious ethnic taste treats. No one goes home hungry from the Heritage Festival!

A massage therapist and acupuncturist team, Julie Aha and Renee Lehman, will also be on hand to demonstrate their healing techniques. We also expect a good turnout from non-profit groups eager to explain their activities and hand out information. If you would like to be involved with the Heritage Festival, contact Festival Chair Bill Collinge: (717) 334-0752 or achf@icpj-gettysburg.org. Both volunteers and participants are always welcome!
