Literacy Council Schedules Training
Sessions
The Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12's Adams County Literacy Council
invites volunteers to share the gift of their time and talents
to help fill an overwhelming number of requests for English-as-a-Second
Language (ESL) tutors. Consider becoming involved by attending
training led by Rosie Bolen and Jan Powers the weekend of July
6, 7, and 8. After completing all sessions, participants receive
ProLiteracy Worldwide certification and are matched with adult
students to help improve reading, writing, conversation, or listening
skills. In addition to one-to-one pairings, the ACLC appreciates
volunteer interest in working with inmates at the Adams County
Adult Correctional Complex.
Fluency in a language other than English is not necessary in
order to tutor. Act 48 credit is available. The $25 registration
fee also includes a resource book chock full of activities, games
and lesson plans, and other take home materials. For more information
or to register please contact the Literacy Council at 334-3065,
or stop by the office at 34 Foth Alley in Gettysburg (near the
fire hall).
