Mediation Group Announces Fall Training
Mediation Services of Adams County, a not-for-profit organization providing mediation services and training, is now accepting applications for a 22-hour Mediation and Conflict Resolution Training workshop in October. Among the emphases of the workshop will be conflict styles, active listening, communication skills, negotiation, and the mediation process.
The workshop is scheduled for Friday evening, Oct. 14; all day Saturday, Oct.15; Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16; and all day Saturday, Oct. 22 in Community Rooms A and B at the Gettysburg Hospital. The cost of the workshop is $150, but those who register before by September 15 will receive a $25 discount on the workshop fee of $150, which covers training, materials, snacks, and lunches.
Mediation is a conflict resolution technique designed to help resolve problems which develop between people in many different relationships, including family, neighbors, and colleagues. In mediation, individuals typically sit down with a trained mediator and work towards a mutually agreeable solution.
Negotiation is a more informal one-on-one approach useful in everyday life. Dispute resolution skills are useful in many settings: the workplace, family, service organizations, municipalities, and community agencies. Those who complete the workshop will be encouraged to use their skills in any way needed to benefit their communities, families, or workplaces.
Professionally trained and certified mediators from Mediation Services of Adams County will conduct all training sessions. Registration forms are available at the Adams County Public Library in Gettysburg and the YWCA. To have a form mailed, please call 717-334-3871 and leave a message. For further information, call 334-3871 or 334-7312.
