Tsumami Project Completed
On December 6, the ICPJ remitted $8888.55 to the Rotary Club of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. This represented our last payment for fishing boats for families who had lost their livelihood in the December 26, 2004, tsunami. In all, the Center–with major assistance from Gettysburg College, the Gettysburg Area High School, the Gettysburg Area Middle School, and the Ragged Edge Coffee House–raised $28,508.55, of which $120 paid bank fees and the remaining $28,388.55 was sent to Sri Lanka. This money enabled the purchase of seven boats, equipped with nets and engines; the boats will serve twenty-eight families. (For more details, see the September 2005 issue of this newsletter.) Again, we thank everyone who contributed money and time to this project.
