Twentieth Anniversary Letters
Dear friends,
How thoughtful it was of you to remember a former board member for recognition at your 20th Anniversary Banquet. I recall that the organization began as a result of a few wonderful citizens’ sincere concern for justice in the borough, county and world.
I congratulate you on maintaining a significant presence in the community for 20 years–all accomplished by volunteers. It seems to me that that is how our great nation began and that we have lost a great deal by not offering our services in worthwhile causes now.
Unfortunately, . . . [I cannot] attend the banquet, but I do send you my best wishes for your work in the future
Sincerely,
John MacPhail
Judge John MacPhail of the Court of Common Pleas was an ICPJ Board member in 1986 and 1987.
Dear Denise,
Thank you for the invitation to attend the ICPJ banquet as a distinguished guest for my past service as a board member. I had very much hoped to attend; however, it turns out that I will not be in Pennsylvania during that time. I would have liked to celebrate the Center’s 20 th anniversary and see everyone working with ICPJ.
I must say as someone who studies social movements that the Center is quite an accomplishment–to be around for 20 years is rather uncommon for local organizations, as research by my colleagues Bob Edwards and Sam Marullo has shown. Everyone involved in the Center is to be given a hearty congratulations for such an accomplishment. May your efforts continue to bear fruit.
