Literacy Council Offers ESL
Training
The LIU #12’s Adams County Literacy Council invites interested
volunteers to join them for their next English-as-a-Second Language
(ESL) Tutor Workshop. Presented by trainers Rosie Bolen and Jan
Powers, the sessions provide sound preparation for teaching adult
students to improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing
skills.
A $25 registration fee covers the cost of a resource book and materials
for the four-session workshop. After attending the evening of Friday,
February 22, the morning and afternoon of February 23, and the afternoon
of February 24, participants receive ProLiteracy tutor certification
and are matched with non-native English speakers. Volunteers are
also needed to help establish an exciting new partnership with Manos
Unidas, St. Francis Xavier Church’s Latino support center in
Gettysburg. The project will offer daytime ESL classes at their site
on High Street. For more information or to register for the workshop,
please call 334-3065 or stop by the Literacy Council office at
34 Foth Alley off Stratton Street.
