Festival Slated for September 19
The 2004 Adams County Heritage Festival will take place from noon
until 5 PM on Sunday, September 19, at the Gettysburg Recreation
Park. Headline performers will include Ulali, a group of First Nation
women who sing in harmony songs of their own composition as well
as traditional music. In addition, the Silk Road Dance Company will
celebrate the legacy of China's traditional trade routes by performing
a Central Asian Wedding, complete with dances from many parts of
the Asian continent.
A group of fiddlers and cloggers, led by Freya Qually,
will introduce a Celtic theme to the Festival and remind us of our
Appalachian heritage. Not to be outdone, the Fire City Jazz Band,
composed of professors from Mount
St. Mary's College, will perform “hot” music originating
with African American culture. We will also welcome back the young
dancers of Generación Diez , who will entertain with traditional
dances of Mexico.
As usual, mouth watering food from many cultures
will be featured at the Festival, as well as craft demonstrations
and vendors. Non profit organizations are again invited to sponsor
booths and make available information about their services and programs.
Those wishing to participate in the Festival should contact the
Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice at 717-334-0752 or visit
the festival website: http://www.icpj-gettysburg.org/festival.htm,
in order to obtain application forms.
