Unitarian Universalists Announce Programs by Prudence A. Reichart
The Unitarian Universalists of Gettysburg hold weekly Sunday services at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, Stratton and High Streets, Gettysburg. Religious education for our young people is a top priority. “In Our Hands,” a peace and social justice program, will be the focal point for our K‑6th graders; the older youth group will explore what they believe they stand for. Nursery care is available. Everyone is welcome.
Following is the schedule of services and featured speakers for November:
November 14: Rev. John T. Morehouse, Minister of the UU Congregation of Frederick, whose topic will be “The Theology of Tending.” He asks, How can we become more of a caring community? Potluck follows service.
November 21: Rev. Valerie T. Wills, UU Church of Hagerstown. The Rev. Wills’s topic is “Humanism Without Dessert”: A 20th Century president spoke of making a kinder, gentler world, a sweeter place to live, a less difficult way to be.
Humanism has a kinder, gentler side, a sweeter way to be, but we don’t all see it that way. Some of us think of Humanism as a meal without the sweetness of dessert. We will try out some views of Humanism and see how they fit our world today. Refreshments follow service.
November 28: A lay-led service about Thanksgiving. What should we be thankful for? Whom should we thank? Is once a year enough? Refreshments follow service.
The tentative schedule for December is as follows:
- Dec.5: To be determined.
- Dec.12: Rev. John T. Morehouse.
- Dec.19: Rev. Howard Dana, Minister, Unitarian Church of Harrisburg.
- Dec. 26: Rev. Ron Crawford.
