Heritage Festival 2007 Set for September
16
by Jan Powers
Plans are already in the making for the 2007 Adams
County Heritage Festival scheduled for Sunday, September 16, at
the Gettysburg Recreation Park from noon until 5 p.m. Forms are
ready to mail to prospective vendors, non-profits, craft demonstrators
and performers. In the meantime, committee members have begun lining
up performers for this year’s festival, which will again
open with bagpiper Rodney Yeaple.
Many of us who heard Jessica Gondwe’s beautiful voice at
the Unity Festival are thrilled to know that she will be singing
African American spirituals at this year’s Heritage Festival.
Another vocal treat will be Voxology, a trio with a wide range
of musical styles, including Americana, bluegrass, country, and
contemporary folk. Based in central Pennsylvania, they have released
three recordings and sung at numerous festivals.
Early music from Latin America will be presented by Zorzal, a
seven-member group led by composer Lynne Gummert and including
local performers Catharine Roth, Tim Sestrick, and Marta Robinson.
Their lively songs and instrumental music will definitely set our
toes tapping. Young people from Generación Diez will return
to the Heritage Festival stage this year to perform festive dances
from south of the border.
Topping the list will be the Chinese Lion Dancers from Baltimore,
who will bring their colorful East Asian “giant beast” to
delight children of all ages. Although we don’t yet know
whether there will be a children’s play or the possibility
of additional performers, we can all surely plan ahead for a terrific
afternoon of entertainment, ethnic food and craft demonstrations.
It’s not too early to circle the date on your calendar.
