Imagine that you have $50,000 you want to spend or donate in some way to promote peace. Explain how you will use the $50,000 and how your contribution will further the cause of peace.

Adams County students in 9th or 10th grade are welcome to submit entries.

Content guidelines
- Present your ideas creatively using factual information and your own thoughts.
- Be sure to answer the following questions:
- How would you spend your $50,000?
- How would your choice further the cause of peace?
- Why did you choose to spend your $50,000 in this way? OR
- If you choose to donate your $50,000 to an organization, what organization would you select?
- How will efforts of this organization further the cause of peace?
- Why did you choose this organization?
- Include a bibliography of your sources. Use a format for bibliographies recommended by your teacher. If your teacher does not have a preferred style, you may use the format suggestions provided here.

Formatting and submission requirements
- Essays must be no less than 350 words and no greater than 500 words.
- Contestant’s name should appear on the cover sheet only, not on the essay.
- Essays may be typed, hand written, or prepared on a computer.
- Contestants must return an original and three copies of his/her essay. Copies are not required for essays submitted via e-mail.
- A completed cover sheet must accompany all essays.
- Incomplete entries will not be considered.
- Essays are due by November 3, 2008.

Judging Criteria
Creativity/Originality - 50 points
Use of Facts - 20 points
Organization of Essay - 15 points
Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling, Neatness - 15 points
Essays containing plagiarized text will be disqualified.

Awards
Awards will be presented on December 11, 2008 at the Adams County Public Library in Gettysburg.
First Place: $100 to the student plus $100 donated to the cause of peace.
Second Place: $ 75 to the student plus $75 donated to the cause of peace.
Third Place: $ 50 to the student plus $50 donated to the cause of peace.
Where practical, ICPJ will donate awards as proposed in the winning essays. However, ICPJ reserves the right to select an alternate recipient.

What is The Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice?
The Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice (ICPJ) is a non-profit organization that seeks to nurture dialogue on peace, social justice and environmental balance and to enrich our community by inspiring individuals to work nonviolently toward the realization of those values in human society. The Center is not only an educational institution but also a catalyst for action and a source of support for individuals and groups responding to community needs and to threats which may arise to just and peaceful community life. Committed to advancing the well-being of all, we act non-violently, with respect for truth and one another as our guiding values.
ICPJ activities include the annual Heritage Festival in Gettysburg, Peace Camp for students K-6 th grade, Learning Adventures Camps for students 6-12 th grade, and the annual Peacemaker Awards honoring local residents who have been distinguished in the pursuit of peace and justice.
ICPJ is not affiliated with any church or religious organization. Our members come from many faiths and share a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the organization.
