Meet our new officers and board members!

Bob Appleton has been elected Chair of the ICPJ Board for 2007-08. Bob has been a member of the ICPJ since 2005. He is also active with the annual Heritage Festival and is a tutor with the Adams County Literacy Council. He served for several years on the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee and with the Lincoln Cemetery Project, a group which worked to restore the African-American cemetery in Gettysburg. He lives in Gettysburg with his wife, Katherine.

The new Vice Chair is Rev. Sandra R. Mackie. Rev. Mackie, of Gettysburg, worked for more than 20 years as an RN, first in the intensive care arena and later as a psychiatric nurse (York Hospital School of Nursing ’74, Neumann College, BS ’87, and ANCC Certification in Adult Mental Health Nursing ’94). She is a therapist (University of Delaware, Master of Counseling ‘ 92) and now serves as an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, M. Div. ‘01). Pastor Mackie also works with the Harrisburg Middle East Justice and Peace Group. She is a supporting member of other national and international NGOs that work for global justice and peace, including the Lutheran Peace Fellowship. Pastor Mackie previously served Faith United Lutheran Parish in Dillsburg and was recently Interim Pastor of St James Evangelical Lutheran Church in West York, PA. Peacemaking in the tradition of the teachings of Jesus and other great religious leaders is Sandra ’s passion, and seeking God’s peace through spiritual formation is her vocational focus.

New Board Member John Kellett is a retired professor of mathematics at Gettysburg College. For years he taught in the Navy about nuclear weapons, and nuclear non-proliferation is one of his passions.

Wendy Mizenko has lived in Hanover for 21 years. She and her husband, Dave, have two adult children. She comes from a non-profit background, having worked at College Misericordia, Maternal Health Services of NE PA, the YWCA of Hanover, Heifer Project International, and currently at the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg. She has experience working in volunteer development, event planning, and publicity.

Since 1985 she has served on the Social Concerns Committee of Trinity United Church of Christ, and for many years she represented them on the Inter-Church Network. She was also on the Board of Directors of the Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen for more than a decade. In the early 1990s, she worked with Pam Frankenfield on the planning committee for Peace Camp.
